Getting a Jackson home ready for a HydroClean visit is simple. We send a checklist 24 to 48 hours before the appointment. Pick up toys and clothes, and have the rooms open and available. We move the lighter furniture ourselves. Large, heavy pieces need moving beforehand if you want the floor under them cleaned.
People ask on the phone how much they need to do before we arrive. The answer is not much, and none of it is cleaning.
Every customer gets a checklist from us 24 to 48 hours before the appointment. It asks for two things. Pick up toys and clothes from the floors we are cleaning, and have the rooms open and available. If you do only that, we can do our job.
You do not need to apologize for the floor either, though nearly everybody does. A carpet that has had four years of children, a dog and a back door is a normal family carpet.
Below the checklist are a few more things that help if you have the time. They are suggestions from us, not requirements. If anything is unclear, call and ask.
The Checklist We Send, and a Few Extras
The first two are the checklist we send 24 to 48 hours before the appointment. The rest are suggestions that help if you have the time.
Toys and Clothes Picked Up
This is on the checklist we send. Toys, clothes, shoes and laundry baskets come up off the floors we are cleaning. Whatever is left on the floor is in the way of the vacuum and the wand.
Rooms Open and Available
This is the other item on the checklist. We need to be able to get into the rooms and work in them. Unlock the doors, and let the household know which rooms are being cleaned and when.
Pets Settled Before We Arrive
An outside door stays open while the hoses are in. Decide where the animals will be and put them there before we knock. A closed room, a crate or the yard all work.
A Place for the Truck
The hoses run from the truck to the room, so the truck needs to park close to a door. If you can move a car off the driveway, it helps.
Large and Heavy Furniture
We do not move large, heavy furniture or anything that would have to be taken apart: beds, large sectionals, china cabinets, pianos, aquariums, gun safes, TVs and entertainment centers. If you want the floor under those cleaned, have them moved before the appointment.
Small and Fragile Things
We move the lighter furniture where it is needed. Small breakables on top of that furniture are safer in your hands than in ours, so carry them to a room we are not cleaning.
The Spot You Are Worried About
Tell us about it when you call, and point it out again at the walkthrough. If you have already tried a store-bought remover on it, say so. That changes how we treat it.
Preparing, in the Order That Helps
When You Call or Send a Request
Tell us what needs cleaning, which rooms, and roughly how big they are. Mention pets, stairs and any spot you are worried about. That is what we build the estimate from.
When the Checklist Arrives
It comes 24 to 48 hours before the appointment. Pick up toys and clothes from the floors, and make sure the rooms will be open and available on the day.
The Morning of the Visit
Put the pets where they are going to stay. Move a car if it frees up a spot near the door. Carry small breakables to a room we are not cleaning.
When We Arrive
After the welcome and a handshake, we do a walkthrough. Point at everything you want us to know about. Mention a loose seam, an old repair, or anywhere you would like us to be careful.
While We Work
Keep children and pets out of the rooms being cleaned and away from the hoses. If you need something from one of those rooms, ask and we will hand it out.
Before We Leave
Look at the work. David will ask if you have any questions or concerns, and this is the time to raise them. Afterward, keep the air moving and leave the furniture blocks in place until the carpet is dry.
What We Handle so You Do Not Have To
- Pre-vacuuming every carpeted area we clean
- Moving the lighter furniture where it is needed
- Cleaning underneath the furniture we move
- Putting the furniture back and blocking it off the damp carpet
- Applying traffic-lane cleaner ahead of the extraction
- Treating the spots that are still showing and rinsing them again
- Neutralizing the carpet if it needs it
- Clearing the floor at the start of a tile and grout job
Preparing for a Hard Floor Job
On a tile and grout job, the first step is clearing the floor. Anything you can lift out ahead of time helps: stools, trash cans, floor mats, pet bowls and whatever lives in the corner of the laundry room. After that we apply cleaner with a pump sprayer and rinse it at high pressure, with the dirty water vacuumed out to the truck.
For a shower, take out the bottles, razors and bath mats. Showers are cleaned with hand tools, and we need to reach the walls, the floor and the corners.
On hardwood and luxury vinyl plank, tell us what you have been cleaning the floor with. If a store-bought polish has built up on hardwood, we use a stripping agent ahead of the deep cleaner, and it helps to know that before we start. Pick up area rugs and runners so the whole floor is clear.
What to Expect on Preparation
We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.
- You do not need to pre-clean, shampoo or scrub anything. If you treated a spot recently with a store-bought product, tell us about it and leave it alone.
- Vacuuming beforehand is welcome but not required. We pre-vacuum every area anyway.
- We do not move large, heavy furniture or anything that would have to be taken apart: beds, large sectionals, china cabinets, pianos, aquariums, gun safes, TVs and entertainment centers. If you want the floor under those cleaned, have them moved before the appointment. If you are not sure about a piece, call and ask.
- If something changes on the day, such as a blocked driveway or a room that is no longer available, call us as soon as you know.
- Preparation helps the job go smoothly. It does not change what the carpet has been through, and we do not always know what will come out.
Preparation Questions
What is on the checklist you send?
Two things. Pick up toys and clothes from the floors we are cleaning, and have the rooms open and available. It goes to every customer 24 to 48 hours before the appointment, so you have time to get it done without rushing.
Do I need to vacuum before you arrive?
No. We pre-vacuum every area before any water goes down. It is a step in our own process. Running your vacuum the day before does no harm, but nobody should rearrange an evening for it.
Do I have to move the furniture myself?
Only the big pieces. We move the lighter furniture, clean underneath, then put it back and block it so the legs stay off the damp carpet. We do not move large, heavy furniture or anything that would have to be taken apart: beds, large sectionals, china cabinets, pianos, aquariums, gun safes, TVs and entertainment centers. If you want the floor under those cleaned, have them moved before the appointment.
What should I do with my dog on the day?
Decide on a spot ahead of time and put the dog there before we arrive, not after the door is open. A closed room, a crate or a few hours with a neighbor all work. If your dog is nervous or protective, tell us when we schedule.
Does it matter where you park?
Yes. The hoses run from our truck to the room, so the closer we can park to a door, the shorter the run. Moving a car off the driveway is one of the more useful things you can do that morning.
When should I mention a stain I really want gone?
When you call, and again at the walkthrough. Tell us what caused it if you know, and what you have already put on it. We cannot promise what will come out, but knowing the history of a spot gives us the best chance with it.
Is there anything you would rather I did not do?
Two things. Please do not scrub a spot hard beforehand, because that can rough up the pile. And skip store-bought spot sprays on anything you plan to show us. They can leave a residue behind, and it changes how we have to treat the spot.
