Getting body oil out of a couch takes more than a surface wipe. Oil from hair and skin soaks into the headrest, arms and seat fronts and darkens them first. We identify the fiber, pre-spray those areas, let it sit 5 to 10 minutes, then hand-shampoo or extract. Old shadowing may only lighten.

Your sofa gets more use than anything else in the house. People sit on it every evening, lean their heads back, rest their arms on the same two spots and put their feet on the same cushion. That contact leaves oil behind, and oil is why a sofa looks tired in certain places instead of evenly.

Look at the headrest area and the front edge of the seat cushions. On most sofas those two areas are darker than the outside arms or the back. That is skin oil, hair product and lotion that has soaked in, turned a little sticky and started holding dust.

We clean the whole piece, but the oil is where the work is. We identify the fiber, test a hidden spot, and put pre-spray on with 5 to 10 minutes to sit. Then we hand-shampoo or hot-water extract, depending on the fabric. Call (731) 437-0006 or request an estimate. For a sofa we can sometimes give a phone estimate, with the final price set when we see it.

Benefits of Sofa Cleaning

  • Pre-spray concentrated on the headrest, arms and seat fronts
  • Fiber identified and a hidden spot tested before visible work
  • Rinse leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic, so no sticky feel
  • Cleaned in your home, where the sofa sits
  • Generally dry in 2 to 6 hours

Who This Is For

  • Households whose sofa is used every evening
  • Homes with pets allowed on the furniture
  • Anyone whose headrest area looks darker than the rest
  • Households with a light colored sofa
  • Anyone whose sofa has never been professionally cleaned

Our Process

  1. Identify the Fiber

We find the manufacturer tag, read the cleaning code and check what the fabric is made of. We also note wear, damage and any spot we have doubts about.

  2. Test a Hidden Spot

We test under a cushion or behind a skirt before anything touches a surface you can see.

  3. Pre-Spray and Dwell

Pre-spray goes on the whole sofa, heaviest on the headrest, arms and seat fronts. It sits 5 to 10 minutes so it can loosen the oil.

  4. Hand-Shampoo or Hot-Water Extraction

Water-safe fabric gets hot-water extraction with a hand tool. Fabric that needs a lighter touch gets shampooed by hand.

  5. Spot Treatment

Spots that are still showing get treated one at a time.

  6. Rinse

A rinse leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic, so no cleaner stays behind to make it stiff or draw soil back.

  7. Air-Dry and a Look Together

The sofa air-dries, and you look it over with us before we leave.

What's Included

  • Fiber and cleaning code identification
  • A test in a hidden spot
  • Pre-spray with 5 to 10 minutes of dwell, heaviest on the oil areas
  • Hand-shampoo or hot-water extraction, chosen by fabric
  • Spot treatment
  • A rinse to neutral or slightly acidic
  • A look at the finished sofa with you

Realistic Results, Honestly

We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.

  • Headrest and arm shadowing usually lightens and may not disappear. Years of body oil oxidize in the fiber and change the color of the fabric there. Cleaning removes soil. It cannot reverse a color change.
  • If your sofa is coded X, it is vacuum only and cannot be wet cleaned. We will show you the tag and explain what we can and cannot do.
  • Flat cushion foam, pilling and worn fabric on the arms are wear. A clean sofa is still a worn sofa.
  • We clean cushion covers in place. Taking zip-off covers off to launder them often shrinks them, and a cover that no longer fits the foam cannot be fixed.

Safe for Your Family and Pets

Our products are family safe and pet safe, which matters on a piece your family sits on every night. The final rinse keeps cleaner from staying in the fabric. Let the sofa dry fully, generally 2 to 6 hours, before you sit on it or let pets back up.

Sofa Cleaning Questions

How do you get body oil out of a couch?

We pre-spray the headrest, arms and seat fronts, let it sit 5 to 10 minutes, then hand-shampoo or extract, depending on the fabric. Newer oil lifts better. Oil that has sat for years may leave a lighter shadow.

How long before I can sit on my sofa again?

Generally 2 to 6 hours. A ceiling fan or your heating and air will shorten that. Sitting on damp fabric can press soil from your clothes straight back in.

Why is the headrest darker than the rest of the sofa?

Body oil from hair and skin. It soaks into the fabric, turns a little tacky and grips dust from the air. That is why it shows as a band in one place instead of general dirt across the piece.

Should I clean the throw pillows too?

It is worth doing at the same time. Pillows sit against the same fabric and pick up the same oil. If we clean the sofa and leave the pillows, the pillows usually look dingy next to it.

Do you need to take my sofa away?

No. We clean it in your home, where it sits. We only need enough room to get around it.

My sofa has never been cleaned. Is it too late?

Usually not. A sofa that has gone years without cleaning often shows a big change. We will look at it and tell you what we think the oil areas will do. We do not always know what will come out until we try.

Wondering about cost? We do not post prices, but you can see what affects the price of upholstery cleaning.
