Upholstery cleaning cost in Jackson and West Tennessee depends on the fabric, the size of the piece, the number of cushions and how much body oil or pet odor it holds. We identify the fiber before we choose a method. We do not post prices. Tell us what pieces you have and we will prepare an estimate.

A floor has a size you can measure. Furniture does not work that way. A three seat sofa and a three seat sectional can seat the same number of people and take very different amounts of time. One is a handful of large surfaces. The other is dozens of small ones.

So when you ask what it costs to clean a couch, we ask what kind of couch. We need to know the piece, the fabric and how it has been used. We do not post prices, because each job is priced individually.

Furniture also carries a different kind of soil than a floor. Carpet collects what walks in from outside. Upholstery collects what comes off people: skin oil, hair product, sunscreen, lotion, food and drink. That soil builds up where a body touches the fabric, and it takes its own kind of pre-treatment.

David Laton started HydroClean in Jackson in 2010 and is IICRC certified. On upholstery the first job is always the same. We identify the fiber, and that decides the method.

Below is what we look at, and what each thing does to the time a piece takes.

The Tag Code Decides the Method

One letter on a hidden label says what the fabric can take. It is one of the first things we check on every piece.

  • Code W

The manufacturer approves water based cleaning. This is the most common code on modern home furniture, and it suits hot water extraction. A W coded piece in good condition is usually the most straightforward kind to clean.

  • Code S

Solvent only. Water can leave rings, shrink the weave or move the dye. You cannot tell by looking, because plenty of S coded fabric feels sturdy in the hand. Tell us if your tag says S, because it changes what the job is.

  • Code WS

Either water based or solvent cleaning is acceptable. We choose by the fabric and the soil that is on it.

  • Code X

Vacuum only. The manufacturer allows no water and no solvent. True X coded pieces are uncommon. Where the tag says X, we follow the label.

Tags go missing. Furniture gets reupholstered, previous owners cut labels off, and some pieces arrive with no code at all. Where there is no tag, we identify the fiber ourselves and test a hidden area before we clean anything you can see.

Fabric Types and How They Behave

The code says what is allowed. The fabric says how carefully we have to work, and that decides the working time.

  • Microfiber

Polyester based and very common. It can show water rings when moisture goes on unevenly, so it needs even, careful passes. It soaks up body oil readily, which is why headrests and arms usually need more pre-treatment than the seat.

  • Cotton and Cotton Blends

A natural fiber that absorbs water and can shrink or brown if it gets too wet. Cotton needs tighter moisture control, and older pieces need a colorfastness test more than most.

  • Linen

Attractive, delicate and unforgiving. Linen watermarks easily and can shrink. It has to be worked slowly at low moisture.

  • Chenille and Cut Pile Textures

Pile fabrics hold soil deep in the tuft and hold water just as readily. They need a thorough rinse, and the pile has to be set in the right direction at the end so it dries evenly.

  • Leather

We do some leather cleaning, on request. It is a different job from fabric, so mention leather pieces when you call.

Sofa and Chair Size, Cushion Count and Construction

Once the fabric is settled, size and construction set the labor. A loveseat with two seat cushions and two back cushions has six or seven working surfaces. A sectional with loose backs, a chaise and a corner piece can have several times that.

Construction matters as much as size. A tight back sofa is quicker to clean than a sofa the same size with eight loose cushions and a skirt. Tufting, piping, buttons and seams all trap soil and need their own attention.

Recliners take longer than they look. There is the footrest, the sides of the footrest and the areas that only show when the chair is open.

Count your dining chairs. Six seat pads is six small jobs. Ottomans, bar stools, benches and headboards are easy to forget on the phone, so put them on your list. If all you have is one small piece, the job falls under our flat-rate service minimum.

Body Oil, Pet Hair and Odor on Your Couch

A sofa is dirtiest in the same three places every time: the headrest, the arms and the front edge of the seat cushions. That is where a body touches the fabric. Skin oil and hair product soak in and darken over time, and vacuuming cannot touch it.

This is why the pre-spray needs time. We apply it and let it dwell for 5 to 10 minutes so it can loosen the oil before we clean. A piece with heavy body oil takes more pre-treatment and more rinsing than one that only carries dust, whatever it looks like from across the room.

Pets add hair and odor. Hair should come out before the fabric gets wet. Odor is harder. Where a dog or cat has slept on the same cushion for years, the odor can be inside the cushion, where surface cleaning does not fully reach.

Access, Handling and Fabric Testing

We clean furniture where it stands in your home. If a piece is wedged into a corner or a tight room, it may have to be pulled out and put back, and that adds a little time.

Before we clean a visible surface, we test. A small hidden area tells us how the fabric and the dye respond. If the test goes badly, we stop and tell you. The test takes a few minutes and is worth it.

Travel is built into the price. You will not see a separate charge for the drive.

From Your First Call to Clean Furniture

  1. You Call or Send an Estimate Request

List every piece: sofas, loveseats, sectionals, chairs, recliners, ottomans and dining chairs. Tell us the fabric if you know it, and whether pets use the furniture.

  2. We Prepare the Estimate

For some jobs we can give a phone estimate, with the final price set on inspection. For others we book an in-home estimate. You approve it, and we schedule a time.

  3. We Identify the Fiber

This comes first on every piece. We check the tag, look at the fabric and test a hidden area. The fiber decides the method.

  4. Pre-Spray and Dwell

The pre-spray goes on and sits for 5 to 10 minutes. That time lets it loosen body oil and soil before we clean.

  5. Hand-Shampoo or Hot Water Extraction

Which one we use depends on the fiber we identified at the start.

  6. Spot Treatment and Rinse

Remaining spots are treated. Then the piece gets a rinse that leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic.

  7. You Look at the Work

You get a chance to look at each piece before we leave. If something is not right and it is within our ability, we make it right before we leave.

What to Expect on Furniture

We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.

  • Fabric sits over foam, and foam holds moisture. Upholstery usually dries in 2 to 6 hours. Keep air moving in the room, and let a cleaned sofa dry before it goes back into full use.
  • Most soil comes out and many stains improve. Old body oil on a headrest often lightens a great deal but may leave some shading. We do not always know what will come out.
  • A cleaned piece can look different overall, because cleaning evens out the contrast between the used areas and the untouched ones.
  • Where a tag says X, the manufacturer is telling us the fabric cannot be wet cleaned or solvent cleaned. We follow that label.
  • Odor that lives inside a cushion is reduced by cleaning the cover, but it may not be removed. Sometimes a new cushion insert is the honest answer.

Upholstery Cleaning Cost Questions

How much does it cost to clean a couch in Jackson?

It depends on the couch. The fabric, the size, the number of cushions and how much body oil or pet odor it holds all change the time it takes. We do not post prices. Tell us what you have and we will prepare an estimate.

Why can't you price a sofa by its size alone?

Because two pieces the same size can be very different jobs. A tight back loveseat is a handful of flat surfaces. A reclining sectional with loose cushions is dozens of small ones. The fabric matters as well. A delicate fabric has to be worked more slowly than a sturdy one.

Where do I find the cleaning code on my furniture?

Look for a tag under the seat cushions or under the frame. The code is a letter or a pair: W for water based, S for solvent, WS for either and X for vacuum only. If the tag is gone, we identify the fiber and test a hidden area.

Is there a minimum charge for one chair?

Yes. We have a service minimum, and a job below it is charged at a flat-rate minimum. Many people have furniture cleaned along with their carpet for that reason.

Can you clean a sofa that a pet sleeps on every day?

Usually yes, and it makes a big difference. Where odor has soaked into the cushion itself, cleaning the cover reduces it but may not remove it. We will tell you honestly what we think you are facing.

Do you have to take the furniture away to clean it?

No. We clean furniture in your home, where it sits. Now and then a piece in a tight space has to be pulled out and put back.

Is leather cleaned the same way as fabric?

No. Leather is a different job from fabric. We do some leather cleaning on request, so mention it when you call and we will estimate it once we know what the piece is.
