Hardwood Floor Polish Removal in Jackson, TN
4.9 (278 reviews)2 min read
Hardwood floor polish removal in Jackson takes off store-bought polish that has started to peel, chip or cloud over. The technician checks the finish under it, pre-sprays a stripping agent, recovers it with a small extractor and finishes with a neutralizing rinse. Scratches and wear that were hidden under the polish will show once it is gone.
Store-bought floor polish looks good for a while. Then it starts to fail. Each coat goes on over the last one, the layers get thicker, and at some point the floor turns cloudy or the polish starts to peel and chip in the traffic areas.
That is polish failing. Most of the time the factory finish under it is in better shape than the floor looks. More mopping will not fix it and more polish makes it worse.
The technician checks the floor first to see what was applied and what finish is under it. Then we pre-spray a stripping agent to break the polish down, recover it with a small extractor, and finish with a neutralizing rinse so the floor does not attract soil or footprints.
Once the polish is off, we can see the real finish and tell you whether the floor just needed cleaning or would be better off with a screen and recoat. Call (731) 437-0006 or send an estimate request to get started.

Benefits of Wood Floor Polish Removal
- Takes off polish that is peeling, chipped or cloudy
- Shows you the factory finish under the buildup
- A neutralizing rinse so the floor does not attract soil afterward
- Lets us tell you what the floor needs next, if anything
Who This Is For
- Homeowners whose floor stays cloudy no matter how often it is mopped
- Anyone seeing polish peel or flake near doors and traffic paths
- Buyers of an older home with years of unknown product on the floor
- Anyone wondering if a cloudy floor needs refinishing
Our Process
Check What Is on the Floor
The technician checks the existing finish and what polishes or waxes have been applied over it.
Pre-Spray a Stripping Agent
A stripping agent goes down to break the store-bought polish loose from the finish.
Extract
A small extractor recovers the stripping agent and the polish it loosened. Heavy buildup can take more than one pass.
Neutralizing Rinse
We rinse the floor to neutralize it, so nothing is left behind to attract soil or show footprints.
Look at the Finish Together
With the polish off, you can see the real condition of the finish. You look at the work before we leave, and we tell you what we would do next, if anything.
What's Included
- A check of the finish and what has been applied over it
- Stripping agent pre-spray
- Recovery with a small extractor
- A neutralizing rinse
- Our recommendation once the real finish is showing
- A chance to look at the work before we leave
Realistic Results, Honestly
We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.
- Polish removal uncovers the finish under it. It does not add a new one. If that finish turns out to be worn thin, a screen and recoat may be the next step. If it is worn through to bare wood, the floor needs a full sand and refinish, which we do not do.
- Years of buildup can take more than one pass. We do not always know how a floor will respond until we start on it.
- Scratches and dark stains under the polish do not go away when the polish does. They were already there. You will see them more clearly once the haze is gone.
Safe for Your Family and Pets
Keep children and pets off the floor while we work and until it is dry. Our products are tested and safe for homes. If anyone in the house has severe allergies or sensitivities, let us know before the job.
What Customers Say
“Highly recommend Hydroclean! If you made the mistake of ever using a hardwood polish that uses an acrylic finish, these guys can come to the rescue. Our floors looked scratched and cloudy. We were contemplating getting all new floors because no amount of cleaning was making a difference. I knew the polish had to be removed. I thought I could do this on my own and after spending an entire day only to get about 100 square feet done, I knew I was in over my head. David and his crew were able to get the rest of my house finished in about 2 hours. My floors now look brand new.”
Melissa M. · Google review · May 2024 “They cleaned my hardwood floors in a 20 year old home we just purchased. Most of the floors had some smeared greasy coating that I just could not clean. They were fast and professional and effective. They were able to remove the build up and my floors look beautiful now. Will use them again and highly recommend.”

Wood Floor Polish Removal Questions
How do you remove polish buildup from hardwood floors?
We pre-spray a stripping agent that breaks the polish down, recover it with a small extractor and finish with a neutralizing rinse. The technician checks the finish under the polish before we start.
How do I know if it is polish or the real finish that is cloudy?
Most of the time it is polish or cleaner residue. If you have ever used a store-bought polish or a mop-and-shine product, that is the likely cause. The technician checks the floor to tell which it is.
What happens if the finish underneath is worn?
We tell you. Sometimes the floor only needed the polish taken off. Sometimes it is a good candidate for a screen and recoat. If the finish is worn through to bare wood, it needs a full sand and refinish, and we do not do that work.
Is this the same as your regular hardwood cleaning?
It is the same process with a different product. Regular cleaning uses a deep cleaner. Polish removal uses a stripping agent, and heavy buildup takes more time.
Should I keep using polish afterward?
We would not. Store-bought polish is what built up and failed in the first place. Ask the technician what to clean with between visits.
