Slate Floor Cleaning in Jackson, TN
4.9 (278 reviews)2 min read
Slate floor cleaning in Jackson gets the soil out of a stone with a rough, layered surface. HydroClean applies a pH-neutral cleaner that is safe for stone, then rinses and extracts the soil from the ridges. Slate sheds thin flakes on its own, and cleaning will clear the loose ones. We can seal the floor afterward.
Slate is a layered stone. That is why it splits into flat tiles, and it is also why thin flakes lift off the surface over time. That flaking is normal for slate.
The surface is rough and ridged, and soil settles into every low spot. A mop moves dirty water across the top and leaves it there. Slate needs a cleaner, then a rinse and extraction to pull the soil out.
The other thing we see on slate is an old coating. A lot of slate floors have had a sealer or wax put on top at some point. When that wears unevenly, the floor looks cloudy and patchy. The technician checks whether you are looking at soil, an old coating or the stone itself.
Slate, sandstone and flagstone can all be sealed after cleaning. Call (731) 437-0006 or send an estimate request.

Our Process
Check the Stone and Any Coating
The technician checks whether the slate is bare or has an old coating on it, and points out areas that are already flaking.
Apply the Cleaner
A pH-neutral cleaner goes down and is given time to loosen the soil in the texture.
Rinse and Extract
The floor is rinsed and the soil is extracted out of the ridges and low spots.
Seal If You Want It
Sealer goes on the clean stone if you asked for it.

Realistic Results, Honestly
We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.
- Slate flakes on its own. Cleaning clears flakes that were already loose, and the stone will keep shedding over time.
- An old coating does not always come off evenly. We do not know how it will respond until we start on it.
- Color varies across slate. Rust, green, purple and gray in the same floor is the stone, and a clean floor shows it more.
- Scratches and chipped edges are damage. Cleaning does not repair them.
Safe for Your Family and Pets
We use pH-neutral products that are tested and safe for homes with children and pets. Slate is slippery when it is wet, so stay off it until it dries, usually 1 to 2 hours.

Slate Cleaning Questions
Why is my slate flaking?
Slate is a layered stone, and shedding thin flakes is normal for it. Cleaning clears the ones that were already loose. It does not cause the flaking and it does not stop it.
Why does my slate look cloudy?
Usually an old sealer or wax on top has worn unevenly. It thins out in the traffic paths and stays thick everywhere else. The technician checks whether that is what you have.
Can slate be mopped?
You can, but a mop mostly spreads dirty water over the ridges. Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner and change the water often. A professional cleaning with extraction is what gets the texture clean.
Can you seal slate, sandstone and flagstone?
Yes. We clean the stone first, then seal it. We also have access to specialty sealers and coatings that can change the look of a floor while protecting it. Tell us what you have in mind.
Wondering about cost? We do not post prices, but you can see what affects the price of stone and area rug cleaning.
