We do some leather furniture cleaning in Jackson, on request. It is not extraction. We clean the hide with a pH-balanced product, then condition it to replace the oils that keep it flexible. Hot water extraction would strip those oils and dry the leather out, which leads to stiffness and cracking. Conditioning is the step that protects it.

Leather is skin, and it behaves like skin. It needs some oil in it to stay soft. Once that oil is gone, the hide stiffens, then it creases, then it cracks. How we clean leather follows from that.

That is why we do not run a hot water extraction tool across leather furniture. Extraction flushes a fabric and pulls the moisture and everything in it back out. On a hide, it strips the natural oils along with the soil and leaves the leather drier than before. So we work a pH-balanced cleaner in, wipe it off, and condition the leather to put oil back.

Leather type matters. Most furniture leather is finished leather with a pigmented topcoat, and it is the most forgiving. Aniline and semi-aniline leathers are dyed through with little or no topcoat. They absorb everything and are far more delicate. Nubuck and suede have a raised nap and need a dry approach. Bonded leather is polyurethane on a fabric backing, and once it starts peeling nothing restores it. We identify which one you have before we touch it. Leather is a small part of our work, and we take it on request. Call or text (731) 437-0006, tell us what the piece is, and we will tell you whether we can help.

Benefits of Leather Cleaning & Conditioning

  • Cleaned with a pH-balanced product made for hide
  • Conditioning puts oil back instead of stripping it out
  • Leather type identified before we choose any product
  • Extra work on headrests and armrests, where body oil sits
  • Leather left supple

Who This Is For

  • Owners of leather sofas, sectionals and recliners
  • Anyone whose leather feels stiff, dry or looks dull
  • Homes where leather sits near a window or a heat source
  • Owners of leather furniture that has never been conditioned
  • Anyone who has been using a household cleaner on leather

Our Process

  1. Identify the Leather Type

We check whether the leather is finished, semi-aniline, aniline, nubuck or bonded. The type decides every product that follows.

  2. Test a Hidden Area

We test a back panel or the underside of a cushion for color stability and absorbency before we touch anything visible.

  3. Dust and Grit Out

Dust and grit come out of the seams, piping, stitching and the crease where the seat meets the back.

  4. pH-Balanced Cleaning

We work a leather cleaner into small sections with a soft applicator and wipe it off before it dries.

  5. More Work on the Oil Areas

Headrests and armrests carry the heaviest body oil on leather furniture, so they get more than a single wipe.

  6. Conditioning

Conditioner goes on and gets time to absorb. It replaces the oils that keep the hide flexible.

  7. Buff and Look It Over

We buff the piece to an even finish and check the seams and stitching. You look at it with us before we leave.

What's Included

  • Leather type identification, including a bonded leather check
  • Color stability and absorbency test in a hidden area
  • Dust and grit removal from seams, piping and stitching
  • pH-balanced leather cleaning, section by section
  • Extra attention on headrests and armrests
  • Conditioning to replace natural oils in the hide
  • Buffing to an even finish
  • A look at the piece with you, plus advice on caring for it

Realistic Results, Honestly

We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.

  • Cracked leather cannot be uncracked. Conditioning makes a cracked hide softer and slows further damage, and the cracks stay.
  • Color loss is permanent. Where a topcoat has worn through on a headrest or an armrest, the pigment is gone. Cleaning the leather around it can make the worn patch more obvious. Putting color back is re-dyeing, which is separate from cleaning.
  • Bonded leather cannot be saved once it begins to peel. It is a polyurethane layer on a fabric backing, and when that layer flakes off it is coming apart. Cleaning does not stop it, and no conditioner reattaches it.
  • Aniline and unfinished leathers absorb, so old spills, ink and dye transfer from denim have often soaked into the hide itself. Those marks may lighten a little and rarely disappear.
  • Conditioning is upkeep. Leather near a window or a heat vent dries out faster and needs it more often.

Safe for Your Family and Pets

The products we use are family safe and pet safe and made for leather. Nothing greasy or slippery stays on the surface after buffing. Household cleaners, saddle soap and alcohol-based wipes strip leather finishes, so we will show you a gentler way to care for the piece between cleanings.

What Customers Say

  • “We had a very good experience. David came and talked to us about what he could do and what to expect. We found the price reasonable. When they came we had several things moved out of the way and they were able to complete the work quickly. They did a very good job and the carpets and couch looked great.”

  • “The men from Hydroclean were awesome. I had a soiled chair from cat urine and they worked very hard to get the odor out! I also had a carpet which had stubborn stains on it, they were able to get it clean. Couldn't be more pleased!”

Leather Cleaning & Conditioning Questions

Do you clean all leather furniture?

We clean some, on request. Most of our upholstery work is fabric, and leather jobs are rare. Call and describe the piece, and we will tell you whether it is one we can take on.

Why is leather not steam cleaned?

Extraction strips the natural oils that keep a hide flexible. Leather that has been flushed and dried out gets stiff, then it creases, then it cracks. We clean leather with a pH-balanced product and then condition it to put oil back.

How often should leather be conditioned?

It depends on the piece and where it sits. Leather near a window, a fireplace or a heat vent dries faster and needs it more often. We will look at how your piece is holding up and suggest an interval.

Can you fix cracked or peeling leather?

No. Conditioning softens cracked leather and slows further damage. It does not close cracks. Peeling bonded leather is polyurethane coming apart, and it cannot be reattached.

What about ink or dye transfer from jeans?

It depends on the leather. On finished leather with an intact topcoat, there is a fair chance of improvement. On aniline or worn leather, the dye has soaked into the hide, and those marks usually lighten at best.

Is it safe to use household wipes on my leather?

No. Household cleaners, disinfecting wipes, saddle soap and anything alcohol-based strip the finish and dry out the hide. Dust with a dry cloth and leave the rest to a proper leather product.

Wondering about cost? We do not post prices, but you can see what affects the price of upholstery cleaning.
