Shower tile cleaning in Jackson is a different job from a floor. A shower has hard-water deposits, soap scum, mold and mildew, and cleaner runs off the walls. So we clean showers with hand tools. We also check the grout for failing spots, hairline cracks and old repairs before we start.

A shower is the hardest place tile has to live. It gets wet several times a day and dries slowly. Soap and body oils build a film, hard water dries into deposits, and mold and mildew grow in grout that stays damp.

The walls change how the work is done. On a floor, cleaner can sit and work. On a shower wall it runs to the pan in seconds. So showers are cleaned with hand tools, a section at a time. It is slow, careful work.

A word about mildew. Cleaning it off is usually a big improvement. Where it has grown deep into unsealed cement grout, some dark tint can remain after the growth is gone. That is stained grout, and color sealing is the fix for it.

Once a shower is clean, sealing the grout is worth thinking about. Sealed grout keeps water on the surface, which gives mildew less to work with. Call (731) 437-0006 or request an estimate.

Benefits of Shower Tile Cleaning

  • Hard-water deposits, soap scum, mold and mildew all addressed
  • Cleaned with hand tools, a section at a time
  • Grout and caulk checked before we start
  • Walls, corners and the pan all done
  • Our opinion on sealing the wettest grout in the house

Who This Is For

  • Jackson homes with a shower that no longer responds to household cleaners
  • Anyone dealing with dark or black shower grout
  • Showers with hard water film on tile and fixtures
  • Bathrooms with weak ventilation and mildew that keeps coming back
  • Sellers, landlords and turnover properties

Our Process

  1. Look the Shower Over

We check the tile type, look for any natural stone and sort out how much of the problem is hard-water deposits, soap scum, or mold and mildew.

  2. Check the Grout and Caulk

We look for failing grout, hairline cracks, old repairs and blackened caulk, and point them out first. Caulk is a replacement job.

  3. Apply the Cleaner

Cleaner goes on with a pump sprayer, a section at a time, so it can work before it runs off.

  4. Clean With Hand Tools

Walls, grout lines, corners and the pan are worked by hand. On a wall, that is the only way to get real contact.

  5. Rinse

Everything is rinsed well so no cleaner is left where you stand barefoot.

  6. Look It Over Together

You look at the shower with us before we leave. We point out anything that is damage and tell you what we think about sealing.

  • Cleaner applied in sections
  • Hand-tool cleaning of walls, grout, corners and pan

Realistic Results, Honestly

We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.

  • Mildew that has grown deep into grout can stain it for good. Clearing the growth is usually a big improvement. Where the tint has soaked into the cement, it stays. Color sealing is the fix at that point.
  • Silicone caulk is not grout and cannot be cleaned the same way. Mildew grows inside old caulk where no cleaner reaches it. Blackened caulk at the corners and along the base of the walls needs replacing.
  • Hard water etching is damage. Where deposits have sat on glass or a polished surface for years, removing them can reveal etching underneath. The deposit comes off. The etch it left does not.
  • Cleaning cannot fix ventilation. If the bathroom has no working fan and the shower stays damp for hours, mildew comes back however well it was cleaned.
  • Shower grout needs sealing more often than any other grout in the house, because it is wet every day.

Safe for Your Family and Pets

We use family safe, pet safe products, rinse them well and keep the bathroom ventilated while we work. Nothing harsh is left where people stand barefoot. We tell you how long to let the shower dry before you use it.

Shower Tile Cleaning Questions

Why is my shower grout black?

Almost always mold and mildew. Shower grout stays damp, and damp unsealed cement is an easy place for it to grow. It gets cleaned by hand, and sealing afterward makes the grout a less welcoming place for it.

Can you remove hard water stains from shower glass?

The mineral deposit can usually be worked off. What cannot be fixed is etching, where minerals sitting on the glass for years have pitted the surface. Removing the deposit can reveal that etching.

Why does the mildew keep coming back?

The conditions are still there. Mildew needs moisture, and a bathroom with a weak or unused fan stays damp. Sealing the grout helps. Running the fan for twenty minutes after a shower helps more than any product.

Should shower grout be sealed?

Yes, more than anywhere else in the house. Sealed grout keeps moisture on the surface instead of absorbing it. It also wears fastest in a shower, so expect to renew it more often than floor grout.

Can you clean the caulk in my shower?

Surface mildew on caulk cleans up. Mildew that has grown into the caulk cannot be cleaned out, because it lives inside the silicone. Blackened caulk needs cutting out and replacing.
