Natural stone sealing in Jackson protects marble, granite, travertine, slate and other natural stone after it is cleaned. Sealer soaks into the stone and slows down how fast a spill is absorbed, which gives you time to wipe it up. HydroClean always cleans first, because sealing over soil locks it in. Sealer does not prevent etching.

Natural stone is porous. A spill left on it soaks in and stains from the inside, where cleaning cannot get to it. Sealer soaks into those same pores and slows that down.

That is what it does. A spill on sealed stone sits on top long enough for you to get a towel. On unsealed travertine it starts going in almost right away.

It has limits. Leave a spill overnight and it can still get in. And sealer does nothing about etching, because etching is acid eating the surface. Sealed marble still etches from lemon juice.

We clean first, every time. Sealer over a dirty floor locks the soil under it. We also have access to specialty sealers and coatings that can change the look and feel of a floor while they protect it. If you have something in mind, call (731) 437-0006 and tell us about it, or send an estimate request.

Benefits of Natural Stone Sealing

  • Slows down how fast spills soak into the stone
  • Applied to clean stone only
  • Makes routine cleaning easier
  • Specialty sealers and coatings available for a different look

Who This Is For

  • Owners of marble, granite, travertine, slate, sandstone or flagstone
  • Kitchens, entries and other busy stone floors
  • Showers and wet areas
  • Anyone whose stone darkens when water sits on it

Our Process

  1. Check Whether It Needs Sealing

The technician puts a few drops of water on the stone. If it darkens, the stone is absorbing and sealer will help.

  2. Clean First

The stone is cleaned, rinsed and extracted. Sealer only goes on clean stone.

  3. Apply the Sealer

We use a professional-grade, solvent-based sealer. It is applied evenly and given time to soak in. What does not soak in is wiped off so it does not dry hazy.

  4. Cure Time

We tell you how long to keep the floor dry and clear while the sealer cures.

  5. You Look at the Floor

You get a chance to look at the work before we leave.

What's Included

  • A water test to see if the stone needs sealing
  • Cleaning before any sealer goes on
  • Sealer applied and the excess wiped off
  • Cure time for your floor
  • A chance to look at the work before we leave

Realistic Results, Honestly

We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.

  • Sealing is not stainproofing. It slows absorption. A spill left long enough still gets in.
  • Sealer does not stop etching. Acid dissolves the surface of marble and travertine whether they are sealed or not.
  • Sealer wears off with traffic and cleaning. Plan on doing it again down the road.
  • Some stone hardly absorbs anything. If the water test shows sealing would not do much, we will tell you.

Safe for Your Family and Pets

Stay off the sealed area until the cure time we give you has passed. If anyone in the house has severe allergies or is sensitive to odors, tell us before the job.

Natural Stone Sealing Questions

Does sealing make my stone stainproof?

No. It slows down how fast the stone absorbs a spill, so you have time to wipe it up. That is the protection it gives.

Will sealer stop my marble from etching?

No. Etching is acid dissolving the surface of the stone. Sealer works down in the pores. Sealed marble etches the same as unsealed marble.

How do I know if my stone needs sealing?

Set a few drops of water on it and give it a few minutes. If the stone darkens under the drops, it is absorbing and sealing will help. If the water beads up, the sealer on it is still working.

How long does stone sealer last?

It depends on the stone, the traffic and how it is cleaned. Try the water drop test now and then. When water starts darkening the stone again, it is time.

Can you seal without cleaning first?

We will not. Sealing over soil traps the soil under the sealer.

Can a sealer change how my floor looks?

Some can. We have access to specialty sealers and coatings that change the look and feel of a floor while protecting it. Call us and tell us what you want the floor to look like.

Wondering about cost? We do not post prices, but you can see what affects the price of stone and area rug cleaning.
