Upholstery cleaning in Jackson and West Tennessee starts with the fiber. We identify what the fabric is made of, pre-spray it and let that sit 5 to 10 minutes, then hand-shampoo or hot-water extract it. Spots get treated, and a final rinse leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic. Then it air-dries.

Some people call it upholstery cleaning and some call it furniture cleaning. Either way it covers couch and sofa cleaning, chairs, sectionals and recliners, done in your home. Furniture gets dirty differently than carpet. Carpet collects what you walk in. Upholstery collects what comes off your body: skin oil, hair product, lotion, sweat and the dust that sticks to all of it. That is why the headrest and the arms darken first, and why a sofa can look tired long before anyone spills on it.

Upholstery also gives us less room for error. There is no pad underneath to take up an over-wet spot, and dyes hold differently from one fabric to the next. So the first thing we do is identify the fiber. Most pieces have a manufacturer tag with a cleaning code. W means water-based cleaning is safe. S means solvent only. WS means either. X means vacuum only, no liquid at all. We also test a hidden spot before we touch a surface you can see.

After that the job runs in the same order every time. Pre-spray goes on and sits 5 to 10 minutes. Then we hand-shampoo or hot-water extract, depending on the fabric. We treat the spots that are left, rinse so the fabric finishes neutral to slightly acidic, and let it air-dry.

David Laton started HydroClean in Jackson in 2010. He still answers the phone and works the jobs. We are family-owned, fully insured and IICRC certified. To get a price, call or text (731) 437-0006 or request an estimate. For some furniture we can give a phone estimate and set the final price when we see the piece. For other jobs we come out and look first.

Benefits

  • Fiber identified before any cleaner goes on
  • Pre-spray gets 5 to 10 minutes to loosen body oil
  • Hand-shampoo or hot-water extraction, whichever the fabric calls for
  • Final rinse leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic, so it does not feel stiff or sticky
  • Most pieces dry in 2 to 6 hours
  • Family safe, pet safe products

Our Process

  1. Identify the Fiber

We find the manufacturer tag, usually under a seat cushion or on the deck of the frame, and read the cleaning code. We check whether the fabric is synthetic, natural or a blend, and we look at trims and skirts, which are often a different material.

  2. Test a Hidden Spot

Before anything goes on a surface you can see, we test the back of a skirt or under a cushion to make sure the dye holds.

  3. Pre-Spray and Dwell

Pre-spray goes on the whole piece and sits 5 to 10 minutes. That time is what loosens body oil from the fabric, so we do not rush it.

  4. Hand-Shampoo or Hot-Water Extraction

Sturdy, water-safe fabrics get hot-water extraction with an upholstery hand tool. More delicate fabrics get shampooed by hand. The fiber decides which one.

  5. Spot Treatment

Whatever spots are still there get treated one at a time, with a product picked for that kind of stain.

  6. Rinse

We rinse so the fabric finishes neutral to slightly acidic. That keeps cleaner from staying in the fabric, which is what makes upholstery feel stiff and pull dirt back in.

  7. Air-Dry and a Look Before We Leave

The piece air-dries, generally in 2 to 6 hours. Before we go, you get a chance to look at the work. If something is not right and it is within our ability, we make it right before we leave.

What's Included

  • Fiber and cleaning code identification on each piece
  • A test in a hidden spot before visible work
  • Pre-spray with 5 to 10 minutes of dwell
  • Hand-shampoo or hot-water extraction, chosen by fabric
  • Extra attention to arms, headrests and seat fronts, where oil builds up
  • Spot treatment where the fabric allows it
  • A rinse that leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic
  • A look at the finished work with you before we leave

Realistic Results, Honestly

We would rather set an honest expectation than make a promise we cannot keep.

  • We do not always know what will come out. Fresh spills usually do better than old ones, and a spot somebody already scrubbed with a store-bought cleaner is harder. If we doubt a spot, we say so before we start.
  • Some fabrics cannot be wet cleaned. A piece coded X is vacuum only. Liquid on it can cause shrinkage, water rings or dye movement that does not come back. If your piece is coded X, we will show you the tag, and we will not clean it wet.
  • Body oil shadowing on headrests and arms usually lightens. It may not disappear. Oil that has soaked in and oxidized over several years has changed the color of the fabric there, and cleaning cannot reverse a color change.
  • Natural fibers such as cotton, linen, jute and viscose can brown. Tannins in the fiber can rise to the surface as the piece dries and leave a tan cast. We keep the moisture down on those fabrics, and we tell you about the risk first.
  • Cleaning does not repair furniture. Sun fading, pilling, threadbare arms, split seams and flat cushion foam are wear. They will still be there on a clean piece.

Safe for Your Family and Pets

The products we use are tested and safe for homes, family safe and pet safe. If someone in the house has severe allergies or sensitivities, tell us. We have a hypoallergenic cleaner with no odor or perfume. Keep pets off the piece until it is dry, generally 2 to 6 hours, so paws do not press fresh soil into clean fabric.

Upholstery Cleaning Questions

How long does upholstery take to dry?

Generally 2 to 6 hours. Upholstery air-dries, and humidity affects it. A ceiling fan or your heating and air shortens the wait. Let the piece dry all the way before you sit on it.

Can you clean any fabric?

Most, but not all the same way. That is why we identify the fiber first. W on the tag is water-safe, S is solvent only, WS allows either, and X is vacuum only with no liquid at all. We clean to what the fabric allows.

Where do I find the fabric cleaning code?

Usually on a tag under a seat cushion, on the deck of the frame beneath the cushions, or under the piece itself. If the tag is missing or unreadable, we test the fabric ourselves and take the more cautious route.

Will cleaning shrink or damage my furniture?

Shrinkage and dye bleed happen when a water-based method goes on a fabric that cannot take it. That is the reason we identify the fiber and test a hidden spot first. If the test shows any dye movement, we change the method.

How often should upholstery be cleaned?

Most furniture in daily use does well with a cleaning every 12 to 24 months. Homes with pets, small children, smokers or allergies usually want the shorter interval. A formal piece nobody sits on can go longer.

Can you get every stain out?

No. We do not always know what will come out until we try. Fresh spills usually respond. Old, set-in and previously treated stains often lighten instead of disappearing, and dye loss cannot be reversed.

Do you clean leather furniture?

Some, on request. Leather is a small part of our work, so tell us about the piece when you call. We clean leather with a pH-balanced product and then condition it to replace natural oils. We do not extract leather, because pulling moisture and oil out of a hide is what causes stiffness and cracking.

Will my furniture feel stiff or sticky afterward?

It should not. Stiff or sticky fabric comes from cleaner left behind. Our last step is a rinse that leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic, which takes care of that and helps the piece stay clean longer.

Do you clean mattresses?

Yes, as part of upholstery cleaning, with low moisture so water is not left in the padding. We do not clean memory foam or hybrid mattresses.

How do I get a price?

Call or text (731) 437-0006 or request an estimate. We respond to requests on the same business day. We ask what pieces you have, roughly how big they are and what the fabric is. For some furniture we can give a phone estimate, with the final price set when we see it. For other jobs we do an in-home estimate. We do not post prices.

Wondering about cost? We do not post prices, but you can see what affects the price of upholstery cleaning.
