Upholstery Cleaning Results on Real Furniture

Upholstery results are quieter than floor results and harder to photograph, because most of the change is in how a fabric feels and smells. This page shows a matched before and after pair of the same sectional sofa, explains what cleaning does for a well used sofa, and says which fabric damage it cannot undo.
Upholstery is the surface where photos help least. A sofa that has soaked up years of body oils, hair product and everyday soil does not always look dirty in a picture. Most of what changes is texture and smell.
What we have today is one matched pair: a blue sectional sofa, photographed before and after we cleaned it. We add more as we photograph them. Furniture fills in more slowly than floors.
The method is on the upholstery cleaning service page.
Before and After
Every photo here is our own work on a job in West Tennessee. Each caption says what the photo shows. These are our upholstery photos. In each pair, both photos show the same floor or piece. One was taken before we cleaned it and one after.

What is in this gallery today?
One matched pair of a blue sectional sofa, before and after cleaning. Both photos show the same piece in the same room. As we photograph more furniture at the start and end of a job, this page will fill in.
The most useful part of this page is still the description of what changes when a sofa is cleaned. For your own furniture, we need to know the fabric and the condition before we can estimate it.
What does a realistic upholstery result look like?
We identify the fiber first. Then we pre-spray and give it 5 to 10 minutes of dwell time, and either hand-shampoo the piece or use hot water extraction, depending on the fabric. Spots get treated, and the rinse leaves the fabric neutral to slightly acidic. That removes body oils, food soil and the gray film that builds along arms, seat fronts and headrests.
Color comes back where soil was hiding it, and the fabric feels clean rather than tacky. The sour smell in a well used sofa usually leaves with the soil that caused it. Upholstery usually dries in 2 to 6 hours. You get a chance to look at the piece before we leave.
What can upholstery cleaning not fix?
Cleaning does not reverse changes to the fabric itself. Sun fading on the side of a sofa that faced a window is a permanent color change. Crushed or thinning pile on the seat fronts is wear, not soil. Bleach spots and dye loss do not reverse, and fabric that has already split will not get stronger with cleaning.
Some fabrics also limit the method. Certain natural fibers, delicate weaves and older pieces with unstable dyes need a gentler approach, which is why we identify the fiber before anything else. Leather is a separate process, and we clean some leather on request. If a piece is not safe to clean, we tell you and leave it alone. Questions about your floors? Call or text (731) 437-0006.
Common Questions
Can you get the smell out of a sofa?
Usually, when the smell comes from soil and body oils in the fabric, because removing the source removes the odor. If liquid soaked into the foam or frame, cleaning reduces the smell and may not remove it. We cannot promise complete odor removal every time.
How long does upholstery take to dry?
Usually 2 to 6 hours. Airflow makes the biggest difference, so fans or your air conditioning help. Before we leave, we give you a realistic time based on the fabric.
Do you clean leather furniture?
We do some leather cleaning on request, with a different process from fabric upholstery. The right approach depends on the finish on the hide, which we check before doing anything to it. Request an estimate and tell us what the piece is.
